Sometimes people call Giewont as a Sleeping Knight. This mountain is the symbol of Zakopane. Residents look at Giewont at every opportunity and tourists recognize its silhouette from every part of the city. This is one of the most know peaks in Tatras and millions of tourists hike to the top every year.
Silhouette of Sleeping Knight is composed by three peaks – Big Giewont, Small Giewont and Long Giewont.
Tourists trail goes to Big Giewont. On the top of the Giewont there is a metal cross which has 17,7m of height and 5,5m of width. All elements of construction were took to the peak up because of 1900th Jesus Christ birthday anniversary.
Peak is steep – there are chains to help. To the top we go from the right side of the peak and go down from the left side.
From the top we can admire beautiful views – we can see Tatras, Zakopane and whole Podhale region.
You can start your hike from many parts: Strążyska Valley, Mała Łąka Valley, Hala Kondratowa and from Kuźnice which is the most popular.
We recommend to start the trip in Mała Łąka Valley – it is steeper to get to the top but there is less people and you can also visit beautiful Mała Łąka Valley.
